Who we are

The Greek Evangelical Church originates spiritually from the Apostolic Church that Jesus Christ Himself founded and historically from the Reformation of the 16th century. The Greek Evangelical Church in Boston was founded in 1963 by Greek Evangelicals who had immigrated to America.

We derive our name «Evangelical» from the Greek word «ÅõáããÝëéï» for the entire Holy Bible, which makes up the sole canon of our life and faith.

We worship God with the propriety and devotion that is suitable for Him and with the simplicity of the first Apostolic Church.

Our belief

Our belief is summarised in the words of the Nicene Creed  ......

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, light from light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen
.

In a few words :

Our faith is summarised in the words of the Apostle's Creed. More analytically:

§    We believe that the Bible/The Holy Scriptures, that is to say the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 of the New Testament are the God-inspired Word given to the people through divine revelation. We believe that there is One God who created the world by His Word and created man in His own image and after his likeness. We believe that He is a Triune God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).

§    We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ and in His incarnation «of  the Holy Ghost and Virgin Mary». We believe in His sinless life, in His miraculous power, in His death on a cross for the salvation of the sinful man, in His bodily Resurrection from the dead, in His Ascension and in His glorious Second Coming.

§    We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit through which the sinner is born again, lives the pious and devout christian life and with His power and His gifts, man serves and carries out God's Holy Will.

§    We believe that Man is by nature sinful and separated from God and that it is impossible for him to enter the kingdom of God and be saved through his works, but only through Faith in the blessed Savior Jesus Christ and His redeeming work for us. By faith, the sinner accepts Christ, entrusts himself on Him and relies solely on Him for his salvation.

§    We believe «in one holy, catholic and apostolic Church», that is to say the innumerable multitude of believers of all times and of all nations, who, united by the Holy Spirit with Christ as the head of the Church constitute the body of the Church and have communion with their Lord and with each oth

Our Special Characteristics

The most important topics of our Teaching as Evangelicals are:

1.
Only The Bible .  Even though we respect and study the Holy Tradition of the Church we accept the Holy Bible, the Old and New Testament as the only Godly revelation and as the only original authority in subjects of faith and life.
2.
Only Christ.  Ï God the Father loved us so much that he sent his Only Son, the Second person of the Holy Trinity, to become flesh and come near us in order to take up on him the penalty of sin, bringing us back to the Lord. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between us and God. He is the only way to meet God.
3.
Only Grace.  ÇGod was the one who made the first step towards the reconciliation of human and God. It is his heart's love that is showing mercy to us independently of our worth.
4.
Only Faith. It is not by human effort that salvation is becoming ours. It is not because we managed to succeed our human goals. It is faith and trust to the work of Christ for us that is the way of and the mean of salvation.

Our Aim

The aim of our Church is to  worship together our wonderful Lord, to preach and to teach the Word of God, to lead the sinful and lost person to Jesus Christ and the road of salvation and to offer brotherly  fellowship, encouragement and edification.

          Thus, the invitation that we extend, is an invitation for each person to come to Christ. It is the very same invitation that He made: «Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.» This invitation reveals all the mercy, all the love, all the willingness to forgive and grace of God, because it is addressed to all people--to people who are, by nature, sinful and it calls them, neither to plea, nor to punishment, but to salvation, forgiveness and true life.

          We extend this heavenly and divine invitation to all.  The response that God expects from us is not to reach out to some philosophy or religion, but personally to the One who died for our sins and rose again for our justification. The Lord Jesus entrusted this  great mission to His disciples and His Church, saying to them: «Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature» ( Mark 16:15).
